EASA-MD Announces Hosting Maryland Horse Month Spectacular Events

Maryland-horse-month-22

Did you know that October is Horse Month in Maryland? Governor Larry Hogan has proclaimed October as Maryland Horse Month, recognizing the abundant historic, recreational, therapeutic, and economic contributions made by the state’s horse industry.  It is a month full of world-class events and excitement and the EquestrAsian Sports Association of Maryland, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization for charitable, educational, and fostering of national or international equestrian sports in the AAPI community, will be creating special opportunities for our community to enjoy and learn about this unique month and its renowned events.

Welcome to our October Horse Month Spectacular 2022! Three Saturdays of special community events that will include:

Saturday, October 15, the Maryland 5 Star

The Maryland 5 Star international eventing competition at Fair Hill, is one of only seven 5 Star events in the world and second in the U.S. The competition is held over three days from October 13 to 16, at the lush 5,600-acre Fair Hill Natural Resource Management Area in Cecil County. Eventing is the triathlon of horse sports, with a flat phase called dressage, followed by a cross country jumping phase, and finishing with a stadium jumping phase. Like in 2021, our Association will have a special tent for our community on cross-country day and will offer a “course walk” for attendees to learn about the cross-country course and the sport of eventing. Lunch and drinks, including beer and wine, will be included.

Saturday, October 22, the Jim McKay Maryland Million Day

ABC-TV Olympics sportscaster Jim McKay is the founder of this $1M flat horse race that features Maryland-bred horses. McKay’s concept was the first of its kind and has been copied in 27 other events in 20 locations throughout the U.S. Our Association will have a special VIP table for members who want to watch and learn about racing. A delicious gourmet buffet will be included.
